Transmit data from the data interface is then converted to a BPSK, QPSK, or OQPSK modulated carrier at an IF frequency. On the receive side an incoming IF carrier is first demodulated to recover raw clock and data information then buffered before being output to the data port. The P440 operates at bit rates from 4.8 to 4100 kbps, in increments of 1 bps. The exact range of bits depends upon the modulation type and Forward Error Correction rate chosen - see Section 4. The modem's advanced digital design makes all modem functions programmable by giving the user full remote and local control. The modem is fully data rate and frequency agile. It accommodates data rates ranging from 9.6 Kbps to 2048 Kbps in 1 bps increments and a carrier frequency ranging from 50 to 90 MHz or 100 to 180 MHz in 100 Hz increments. A high data rate option extends 1/2 rate QPSK operation to 8448 Kbps, and 3/4 or 7/8 rate QPSK operation to 10 Mbps. Passive adapter modules mounted on the back of the chassis provide connector compatibility with V.35, RS422, RS232, or T1/G.703 terrestrial interfaces. Programmable selection of active interface circuitry located on the modem board itself gives the user total interface flexibility.
